Watchy

I love watches and how they are put together, so I made a game about it. You build real mechanical movements, wind them up and see how all the little parts work together.

Why I made it

I once thought about training as a watchmaker. Most people never see what is inside a watch, so I made Watchy: a game where you build and wind real movements and watch every little part drive the next.

What I built

  • Real movements: ETA 2824, NH35, Omega 1861, Valjoux 7750…
  • Build the movement part by part, then wind the crown
  • Watch the gears and escapement tick

Result

A game, just for fun.

How I made it

The hardest part was the tone: not childish, but not too serious either. It had to be a fun little game in which you learn how a watch fits together.

It’s TypeScript and Canvas, bundled with esbuild, with no frameworks.

Try it like this

  1. Press “Play” and pick a movement.
  2. Build it part by part, then wind the crown.
  3. Watch the gears and the escapement tick.
